An acquaintance brought me here last week. She said her family knows the owner and a few family members have worked here over the years. She also mentioned that she was hoping we could have a game night here like I have done at a few restaurants in the past. When we drove up I realized I had actually been here a few times for parties years ago. It's been awhile but I still recognized the place and remembered how much I liked their cheese dip the last time I was here. I was excited to see if I still liked the food. The place itself is very cool looking. I love the outside as it's incredibly unique. The inside is decorated with a number of authentic sarapes and other things that help make it feel like a more authentically Mexican place. I was sad that it was still mostly Tex-Mex but I liked the decor. This place is pretty large though portioned into different sections. The main sitting area is in between the kitchen and the bar/dance area. I was told there's also an upstairs. I decided to try something unique to here (though it may be a standard dish renamed) so I tried the Pollo Loco Tapatio with corn tortillas. If you're more into authentic Mexican cuisine, I highly suggest getting corn tortillas whenever the option is available. My friend got some soup. I was perturbed when I saw that my chicken seemed to be covered with cheese as I'm not a big cheese person, but I was surprisingly pleased to find it all balanced out well when combined with the corn tortillas, rice, and beans. I really enjoyed my food and wouldn't mind coming back. The owner was ok with us having a game night here as well, which is fantastic. Liked: - Pico de Gallo - Pollo Loco Tapatio + corn tortillas - Salsa Verde Ok: - Beans - Salsa Rojo Disliked: - Rice

Don't need to go back. Was curious because of the outside look and the inside has possibility for ambiance. Got inside and the hostess seemed challenged that we were there and took us to a back room that was cold. Not sure what was going on in the main dining room since the parking lot only had a few cars. Took 10 minutes to get some chips, another 10 minutes for our order to be taken. 20 minutes later the food arrived. It looked fine and it was served hot --- but it was so spicy it had no discernable taste and could not be enjoyed.

Bottomline. What Does A Meal Taste Like That Never Shows Up? Like Cold Despair The location is off the beaten path & its in an older building. My wife, daughter & I visited this place at 6pm on a weeknight. I immediately began to suspect that the table buser, server, register guy & cook might all be the same person. How can a restaurant be this deserted at 6pm on a weeknight? I ordered a beer, soda for my daughter & mixed drink for my wife. The Beer, soda & chips managed to find there way to the table. The mixed drink never did, nor did we ever see our server return. After 30 mins I found him at the bar (he was also the bartender) making a mixed drink (someone else's) & he told me a cook was coming out to take our order. Like a sucker we waited another 20 mins, before finally giving up & leaving. Grand Total of 1 hr wasted here. Given the organization of this resturant, seating patrons all over the place instead in a manageable location, lack of staff at 6pm on a weeknight, makes me fearful of what goes on in the kitchen. Beware!

Really good margaritas and good food. I have had the fajitas and enchiladas a few weeks ago and it was great.

Food and service was great, but if you have a little one be aware that there is no changing table or counter top in the bathroom. There also wasn't any soap.

Like the last reviewer, I used a $20 Groupon that I had paid $5 for through another discount. I had noticed the part on the Groupon where it did say that it could not be used for alcoholic beverages. We had a pitcher of Margarita's that we paid the normal price for. They were good Margarita's and I really enjoyed them. Our food was great, the service was good, and the prices are fair and reasonable, even without the Groupon. When we came to pay, they did in fact check all the conditions to make sure we qualified. Our friend that was with us picked up the pitcher of Margarita's, so our whole bill only came to about $26. The amusing part was watching the cashier take out her cell phone, fumble with it for a while until she found calculator mode and then used the cell phone calculator to subtract $20 from the total bill of $26 and change. What are they teaching the kids in school these days??? Next? I just got another discount coupon through Restaurants.com for El Amigo. I will return. I will actually return even when I have to pay the full price.

Just want to add a star as seems the last couple times I've been there since the last review service has improved and the guacamole has been consistently good, margaritas taste better too. Smaller than the other places but consistent.

I decided to get the El Amigo Groupon yesterday because I got it for free with the $5 discount and I had $5 of Groupon bucks. My husband and I went to El Amigo and ordered 2 rounds of margaritas because it was 2 for 1 happy hour and then ordered our food. Every thing was ok at best. Before the manager left to get the check I showed him the Groupon and when he came back he had our bill for $29 dollars! He said that we did not meet the minimum $20 purchase requirement for the Groupon. He said we could spend one more dollar to qualify to use the Groupon but that we would have to pay full price for all of our margaritas if we use the Groupon. He told us we should have told him we had the Groupon before we ordered so he could have explained all the rules to us. I told him I read the Groupon and NONE of those rules were explained on it. He would not budge and was borderline rude. So we got a tea to go so we could use the Groupon because we never plan on going back and ended up spending over $20 for our margaritas and the remainder of the tea. I planned on spending no more than $10 dollars on 2 rounds or happy hour margaritas. I was extremely disappointed in our trip. I am not sure if Groupon did not put all the rules under the fine print section or if the manager was making up rules as he went. Either way Groupon users beware!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
